Once again, we held a special meeting to kick-off another year of Bright Lights. We invited all of the girls to our home on October 25 and we had an enjoyable evening of singing and getting re-acquainted through fun games. The Lord gave us beautiful weather and we enjoyed our snacks and devotions outside around the campfire. Here’s some pictures from our evening:
During our devotion, we talked about our mission that we have as daughters of the King. We read a story about a girl named Mary who had a mission to light the lamps in the lighthouse one dark, stormy night.
Her father was gone, she couldn’t reach the lamps, and there were evil men trying to keep the lighthouse dark so they could plunder ships that crashed. But Mary was determined to light them because she knew that there were ships at sea who desperately needed the light to keep them from wrecking on the rocks that lined the coast. In the midst of difficulty and opposition, she persevered until she was able to light the lamps to shine into the dark storm to guide the sailors to safety.
We too have a mission to shine the light of Christ to a world that is lost and in danger of dying out in the darkness. How are we doing? Are we being faithful to shine the light wherever we go? Or do we give up when things get tough and we feel like its not worth the effort?
Our testimony is an important part of shining the light. People won’t see Jesus in us if we are just like everyone else in the world. God won’t force us to accomplish this special mission to shine His light. We have to make the choice to be a bright light for Him and to get involved in His work! It won’t always be easy to fulfill the mission He has given us, but we can do it with His help. Let’s do our best for Him! Are we fulfilling the mission God has given us?
It was a special evening (we even heard some coyotes howling off in the distance while we were reading the story about Mary, and you could almost imagine it was the sound of the storm). We enjoyed seeing everyone again, and it was wonderful to see everyone’s excitement for another year of Bright Lights. See you all on November 6!
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
We held our Fall 2013 kick-off celebration meeting to start out the new school year of Bright Lights. We were so blessed that most of the girls were able to make it, and we were delighted to meet some new young ladies who plan to join us this year!
After a time of singing favorites from the Bright Lights songbook, we played a variety of fun games to help everyone get reacquainted again. One of everyone’s favorites was “The Name Game” that we played during our meeting on friends last school year.
We spent about 45 minutes playing games, and then took our snacks, tea, and hot apple cider out to the campfire to visit a bit before having a short devotional. We talked about Jesus being the Light of the world (John 8:15) and the importance of walking in His light. We also talked about how Jesus calls us as believers to be the light of the world (Matt. 5:14) and how this should be a reflection of His light into the darkness around us. The closer we are to Jesus, the brighter we will be reflecting His light to those who are lost in the darkness of this world. We ended with singing:
Lord, I will shine Your light, with joy and a smile that’s bright.
I will seek You all my days; Lord, I want to learn Your ways.
In this world of night, Lord, I will shine Your light.
Everyone stayed past our ending time of 8:30 to enjoy more fellowship around the fire and in the house. It was such a wonderful evening, and we are so looking forward to seeing each young lady throughout this new school year! See you all on October 3! :)
Last night (September 27) was our official Bright Lights kick-off celebration. This special meeting was held in our home. We began with a time of singing favorites from the Bright Lights songbook… the girls sounded beautiful as they lifted their voices in praise to the Lord.
Next, we spent some time playing a couple of games to help the new girls get to know everyone, and for the other girls to get reacquainted. We then split into two groups and did some Bible charades.
After games, we got our snacks and hot apple cider before heading outside to the campfire.
Then we had a short devotional and story about being a bright light in a dark world and the importance of not wasting the years of our youth. During the devotional, Deborah was drawing a chalk picture and near the end, lit it up with a black-light.
We were so blessed to have so many of you join us for this special kick-off meeting. We look forward to seeing you all again in two weeks at our next meeting on October 11.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
