I apologize for the lateness of this post… my sisters and I were down in St. Cloud helping with the Bright Lights conferences almost all week. Stay tuned for a report of that special time!
On October 2, we had our first “official” Bright Lights meeting of the year. Since we’ve had several new girls join us this school year, we decided to take a meeting to review Set 1 of the Bright Lights curriculum since its foundational to everything else we learn in Bright Lights.
To finish the lesson, we had a time of personal evaluation to see how we were doing in each of these areas.
For our activity, we did a special scavenger hunt. We divided into 4 small groups to race against each other, armed with a worksheet list.
Each list item contained a chapter from Scripture, and a verse with a blank. The girls had to look up the chapter, find the correct verse, and fill in the blank. That word then became an item for their scavenger hunt.
All the items for the scavenger hunt were contained in four different boxes hidden around the church, and to make things a little more challenging, there were only 1 or 2 of several particular items. The team that collected the most items was the winner. It was a lot of fun! :)
We enjoyed tea, snacks, and fellowship to finish off the evening. And many of the girls stayed and helped clean up after the meeting. That was such a blessing… thank you, girls! I’m looking forward to seeing you all on October 24.
We had our last meeting for the school year on May 9. For our singing time, the girls picked their favorites from the Bright Lights songbook. We then had a short lesson reminding us of the importance of what we learned in Bright Lights this school year, and different ways that we can keep ourselves from forgetting it in the busyness of the summer. The girls then went to spend some time with the Lord asking for His help to apply our Bright Lights lessons this summer, and to write a testimony of how He used Bright Lights to work in their lives this past school year.
Next, we divided into 4 different teams for a review quiz of Set 3 and 4 of the Bright Lights curriculum. We had a lot of fun, and it was a great way to jog our memory on the important truths that we learned this school year.
The winning team had the reward of going through the snack line first… and we had an ice cream sundae party to close out the meeting. Each of the girls brought a different topping. What a treat that was!
Everyone stayed past our usual ending time as we enjoyed fellowship with each other one last time for the school year.
And we finally managed to get a group picture!
May the Lord bless all of you young ladies as you seek to be strong for the Lord in your youth and shine as bright lights in this dark world.
Bright Lights, shining in the darkness. Bright Lights, standing for the truth.
Bright Lights, serving the Lord in our youth. Lighting up the world, Bright Lights! Together we will be Bright Lights!
Last night (September 27) was our official Bright Lights kick-off celebration. This special meeting was held in our home. We began with a time of singing favorites from the Bright Lights songbook… the girls sounded beautiful as they lifted their voices in praise to the Lord.
Next, we spent some time playing a couple of games to help the new girls get to know everyone, and for the other girls to get reacquainted. We then split into two groups and did some Bible charades.
After games, we got our snacks and hot apple cider before heading outside to the campfire.
Then we had a short devotional and story about being a bright light in a dark world and the importance of not wasting the years of our youth. During the devotional, Deborah was drawing a chalk picture and near the end, lit it up with a black-light.
We were so blessed to have so many of you join us for this special kick-off meeting. We look forward to seeing you all again in two weeks at our next meeting on October 11.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
