We are a group of young ladies who are striving to shine brightly for Christ in this dark world. We are located in Bemidji, Minnesota, yet we are only one of the 600+ Bright Lights groups in the United States and internationally. Our group leader is Sara Fraser. She loves her Savior, Jesus Christ, and has a passion to encourage girls and young ladies to live for Him.
What is Bright Lights?
In 1996, a 17-year-old young lady, Sarah Mally, was concerned about young Christian girls in her area and started a discipleship group in her living room. Her goal was to build the faith of those young girls and instill in them convictions that would keep them strong in the Lord as they navigated through the teen years. As the group began to grow, Sarah was encouraged by the fruit that she saw in the girls’ lives and the like-minded fellowship and positive peer pressure that developed within the group. Before long, many more Bright Lights groups were beginning as older girls in other areas also saw the need to disciple younger girls and give practical training in godliness. Over 600 Bright Lights groups have started around the nation and internationally.
Ages 10-14 are often a turning point for young ladies. Decisions made at this time will greatly influence their entire lives. They need guidance from the Word of God and vision for ministry. When a mature older girl sets forth a godly example and takes an interest in their lives, the impact is dramatic.
Many underestimate the ability of young people to take a mighty stand for Jesus Christ in this generation of darkness. But the Bible tells us, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (I Tim 4:12). The goal of Bright Lights is to disciple young ladies age 10-14 (older girls are welcome to join our group!) to be exactly what our acronym (BRIGHT) describes: to Be Radiant In Godliness, Holiness, and Testimony. Being radiant means that we are shining so brightly that we are leading others in the way of the Lord!
